The shooting occurred at approximately 7:15 a.m. on the 7000 block of Pavilion Drive.
Life Flight first responders used the floor of a nearby high school as a landing zone, but deputies said the shooting did not take place at the school. The teenager was outside a home near Bellaire and Highway 6 meeting with unidentified suspects when an altercation ensued and gunshots rang out, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
Gonzalez said the injured teenager drove away in a black four-door sedan. Life Flight then took the 16-year-old to the hospital in critical condition.
MPs said there were no witnesses, but there are people who said they heard gunshots.
