Teen killed in possible accidental shooting at New York apartment

A 14-year-old boy was killed in what police are investigating as a possible accidental shooting in the lobby of a Bronx apartment building early Thursday, authorities said.

The teenager, identified by police as Jacob Borbin, 14, was shot in the chest just after 1 a.m. in the lobby of the building at East 194th Street and Briggs Avenue at Fordham Manor, police officers said.

Borbin, who lives more than two miles away in the Morris Park neighborhood, was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Investigators are investigating whether a group of people were in the lobby — messing around with a gun — when they accidentally went off and hit Borbin, cops said.

No arrests were made immediately.

“A 14-year-old was fatally shot earlier this morning in our Fordham Heights community,” Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson tweeted. “An investigation is underway.”

“A mother received the worst call about losing her child,” she wrote. “Just unbelievable and happens far too often. Pray for this family.”
