LEE COUNTY, Fla. – When she was 15 years old, Jianna Senkeleski found the perfect part-time job at Sanibel Sprout cafe on Sanibel Island.
But few know that the gig will eventually materialize into something much bigger. Last year, the cafe’s original owner, Nikki Rood, decided to sell the business and move out of state.
Nikki has received many offers to buy the cafe, including one from Jianna.
“People go out to get these opportunities,” says Jianna.
Knowing the cafe would be a success, Nikki decided to sell Sanibel Sprout to Jianna. She is now a coffee shop owner at the age of 19.
“It took so long to mature quickly because I never dealt with buying a business or setting up any of this,” said Jianna, who used her savings to help buy coffee shop, said.
Within the first few weeks of business, Jianna assembled an all-female staff and continued the cafe’s vegan, all-natural mission.
“I think my biggest hope is that people will see us differently not only because I’m young, but also because of the way we treat people,” Jianna said.
