Tech Sassy Girlz hosts an event about FemSTEM

In partnership with FIRST, TSG Event kicks off National Computer Science Education Week to Showcase the Countless Women Working in STEM Careers

ORLANDO, FL, USA, December 11, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ – Educating young girls and celebrating their curiosity in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) empowers the next generation of creativity. With community support programs like Tech Sassy Girlz (TSG), programming, and outreach go a long way in ensuring the development of the next generation of STEM-savvy leaders.

According to the 2019 US Census Bureau, 30% of women are still underrepresented in STEM! TSG is committed to inspiring and empowering middle and high school girls to pursue STEM career paths.

One way to do this is through programming and events like FemSTEM’s Robots event: From Thoughts to Bots, held on November 12, 2021. This event, in partnership with FIRST, has gives 80 girls the chance to learn more about programming, wiring, and 3D printing. The event inspired students to learn more about robotics and STEM-related fields, and share their interest in robotics of all ages.

Inspiring women participating include Andrea Wesser-Brawner, Orange County Government’s Director of Emerging Technologies & Innovation as keynote speaker.

Tech Sassy Girlz (TSG) gives girls access to develop 21st century computing skills to help them capture their passions and realize their potential in STEM fields. Since its founding in 2012, TSG has touched the lives of more than 2,000 middle and high school “girlz” and awarded more than $20,000 in scholarships. TSG’s Pearls in Tech program has placed students on successful six-week paid internships at various businesses including City of OrlandoIT Department and AceApps, LLC. It provides the opportunity to learn practical skills applied in a professional environment.

To learn more about the impact of TSG, Lauren Mutugi from Cohort 4 explains, “I learned how to code HTML and JavaScript, and I also learned how to work as a team and collaborate. I feel like I understand people better. and how to work with them. What I love most about Tech Sassy Girlz is that it’s mostly women and focused on women.”

On October 20, 2021, TSG started its fundraising campaign, The Butterfly Effect: A Decade of Transformation. The goal is to raise $100,000 by TSG’s 10th anniversary on February 23, 2022. Corporate donations and giveaways will be used to introduce STEM to girls without represent. TSG’s year-round award-winning STEM program is offered at no cost to students.
