Teacher, 36, was caught driving four times the legal limit with 3 kids in her car the day she launched her childcare business

A DRUNK teacher was caught driving four times the legal limit with three kids – on the day she launched her own childcare business.

Mother-of-two Christina Manning has been banned from classes for at least five years after watchdogs deemed no one injured as “luck rather than judgment”.

The 36-year-old was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison for the shock charge – despite evading guardianship after an appeal.

The judges heard Manning drank at a summer barbecue the night before getting behind the wheel.

The next day, she drank a large glass of wine in the afternoon.

Then she set off in her Renault Megane with 13, 10 year olds and one person in the back.

Officers dragged her through a primary school car park in Cheshire, her breath smelling of alcohol.

She got a reading of 130 micrograms in her breath – almost four times the legal limit of 35.

Manning spent the night in his cell before appearing in court the next day.

Having pleaded guilty to drinking while driving and being drunk while in charge of a child under seven, Manning told the judges she drank as a “coping mechanism”.

She was immediately jailed.

However, the prison sentence was reduced to a suspended sentence at the crown court just two days later.

BOOZY MISS IS BANNED

At the time of the crime, Manning was working as a bow teacher at Princes Primary School in Liverpool.

And a review board has now said she cannot return to teaching for many years to come.

Craig Underwood, who presided over the trial, said: “Luckily the verdict was that no one was injured.

“This could result in serious injury to a student or member of the public.”

Sarah Buxcey, for Education Secretary, said: “The panel found that Ms Manning’s conduct did not match the expected standards of the profession.

“The misconduct findings are particularly serious because they include one related to driving with a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit and being drunk while carrying a child under the age of seven.”

The teacher was also banned from driving for five years upon conviction.
