Taylor Swift wanted a ‘Twilight’ role – but the director turned it down

Dominating mainstream pop culture in the late 2000s, Taylor Swift was even a fan of another phenomenon at the time.

Yes, T-Swift was a die-hard Twi-hard like the rest of the American teenager obsessed with the “Twilight” movies.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon director Chris Weitz even revealed the singer, now 32, wanted a cameo in the 2009 sequel.

However, he shot her down because her star power was just too great.

On the podcast The Twilight Effect With Ashley Greene and Melanie Howe, the filmmaker opened up about how certain celebrities wanted to appear in the film because they were such big lovers of vampire romance movies.

“The craziest thing of all was hearing that Taylor Swift was a huge twi-hard, and in fact, Taylor Swift and I had the same agent at the time,” said the About a Boy director.

“[Our agent said] “Taylor would love to be in this movie – not because of you, but she’s a twi-hard. She’d be someone in the cafeteria or the diner or whatever, but she just wants to be in this movie,'” he recalled.

But Weitz was concerned that the fame of the “Shake It Off” crooner in the film would be too distracting.

“The hardest part for me was, the moment Taylor Swift comes on screen for like five minutes, nobody’s going to be able to process anything,” he noted.

It seems Taylor Swift is a twi-hard when it comes to this "dusk" Series of films with Kristen Stewart.

“I kick myself for that, too, because I was like, ‘Wow, I could have been hanging out with Taylor Swift,'” he said of the “Bad Blood” singer. “We could have been friends”

“She must have said, ‘Who is this idiot?’ But sometimes you make decisions because you think that’s what’s best for the film,” added the American Pie producer.

Otherwise, Swift has dipped her toes into the world of acting in recent years, clinching roles in film projects such as Valentine’s Day, The Lorax and the much-maligned Cats, as well as the TV sitcom New Girl. ”

Her next role will be in the upcoming Ensemble David O. Russell feature film Amsterdam.
