Taika Waititi has said he appears “very gay”.
The Oscar-winning filmmaker made the comment in a recent interview Wired.
The publication notes that he is “occasionally mistaken for queer,” a sentiment that Waititi summed up as, “I come across as very gay.”
Wired adds that this perception of Waititi stems from both his fashion sense and the characters he plays in films, which Camp often clashes with.
Waititi has acted in a number of his films including 2019 Jojo rabbitwho was nominated for the 2020 Academy Award for Best Picture. In it he played the clown Adolf Hitler, the imaginary friend of Jojo (Roman Griffin Davis).
He is also famous for his role in the mockumentary What we do in the shadowsin which he portrays the kindhearted vampire Viago.
The 46-year-old is currently in a relationship with British singer Rita Ora.
Elsewhere in the interview, Waititi said he finds it “really exhausting” to be with people, including his family.
He said: “It’s just really exhausting. With whomever – no matter with whom. Even my family. But I’ve definitely never met.”
That Thor: Love and Thunder The filmmaker clarified that there was “absolutely nothing loaded” about his commentary.
The highly anticipated Thor sequel – starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Christian Bale – hits theaters July 8.
