Suspect in fatal Bronx shooting has handled guns since age 12: source

The Bronx teenager accused of fatally shooting a 16-year-old girl in front of a high school has been on the NYPD’s radar since she was 12 – when he was handling guns for a gang, a law enforcement source said The Post on Sunday with.
Jeremiah Ryan, 17, is now charged with murder and attempted murder in the stray bullet killing of Angellyh Yambo and the shooting dead of two other 16-year-olds near the South Bronx campus of University Heights High School on Friday afternoon.
“He’s been a troublesome person for years,” the source said. “Unfortunately, it took someone’s life to get arrested.”

“When he was 12, the older guys gave him guns because they knew he wouldn’t be held accountable for his actions,” the NYPD detective added.
“He didn’t draw attention until he started shooting people, and then it’s too late.”
Bronx cops picked Ryan up at his home on Saturday – after catching him dropping a “ghost gun,” detectives believe he used it in a black plastic bag while shooting out a window.
Investigators conducted laboratory tests to definitively confirm that the makeshift firearm was the murder weapon.
Guns were no stranger to Ryan, the source said.

“When he was 12 or 13 years old, he put pictures of guns on Facebook,” the detectives said. “He hung out with local crews in the Bronx.”
Police said Ryan had no criminal record, and sources previously told the Post the accused shooter wasn’t in a gang but got into the wrong crowd. His grandfather has insisted Ryan is a “good kid”.
The teenager is said to have squeezed off the 9mm rounds on East 156th Street near Brook Avenue during an argument before fleeing the scene to his home a few blocks away, according to police.

At that moment, the police officers said he threw the unloaded black Polymer 80 ghost pistol out the window. Ghost Guns are untraceable weapons with parts that can be bought online and assembled at home.
Although Ryan had no previous arrests, sources said Ryan used to date Pedro Hernandez, a repeat offender so notorious for avoiding prison that he was once considered a “poster boy” for the controversial reform bills was referred to bail from the state.
Ryan was charged on Saturday and is due back in court on Monday.
