Straphanger stabbed in the stomach at the New York train station: cops

A straphanger was stabbed in the abdomen at a Bronx train station early Friday, police officers said.

The male victim, whose age was not immediately known, was at the No. 6 train station at Longwood Avenue and Southern Boulevard just before 6 a.m. when a male assailant stabbed him, police said.

He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The motive for the attack remained unclear later in the morning. It’s also unclear if the victim was on a train when she was stabbed.

A person of interest, who police say is in her 20s, has been taken into custody with charges pending.

The incident came amid a string of robberies and muggings in the city’s subway system over the past few weeks.
