stranger things Viewers are currently watching the newly released fourth season in hopes of uncovering hidden details.
One such Easter egg was spotted in the first episode of the new series, which debuted on Netflix last week.
It references the character of Max, played by Sadie Sink, and her brother Billy (Dacre Montgomery), who died in season three.
The abusive Billy died after being possessed by the Mind Flayer, eventually sacrificing himself to save Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and the residents of Hawkins.
In season four, viewers learn that Max was traumatized by the event and has recurring nightmares about it – which have potentially fatal consequences in the fourth episode of the series.
*Spoilers to follow – you have been warned*
Max is revealed to be a chosen victim of Vecna, a Freddy Krueger-esque character who kills her young victims after claiming them. However, thanks to some detective work from Robin (Maya Hawke), music turns out to be a bridge between reality and Vecna’s nightmarish world – with the help of Kate Bush, Max lives to fight another day.
But when she sees Vecna, he appears in the form of Billy, and viewers learn how deeply her brother’s death has affected them.
However, the clues were there the entire time viewers heard a background exchange in the background of the first episode, which was shown on a television show.
As Max walks through her trailer while feeding her dog, a character on the unseen TV show says, “But this is your old friend Billy speaking,” to which another character replies, “I’m trying to be normal, Billy. ”

This exchange is almost certainly a nod to the trauma Max is experiencing in the new series.
Meanwhile, viewers also pointed out that it’s a “glaring” Eleven-related bug, and a TikTok video that’s been viewed more than eight million times highlights a resurfaced detail that says the way and will change the way you watch the second episode of the new season. However, the show’s writers have since admitted that the heartbreaking Easter egg was unintentional. “We’re sorry,” said the Duffer Brothers.
In other recent ones stranger things News, actor Charlie Heaton addressed complaints from fans that his character Jonathan has been “paused” in the new season along with Mike and Will.
