Stranger Things fans think they’ve spotted a glaring “plot hole” in the latest Netflix season

The show returned to screens last week after a hiatus of almost three years, drawing strong reviews from critics including The Independentis Amanda Whiting.

Nonetheless, a few plot points have left viewers scratching their heads, with one in particular prompting some confused reactions on social media.

As fans of the show will likely recall, the character of Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) returned to the first series and was initially barely able to communicate.

She had to learn how to speak from the other kids and eventually became more fluent as the show progressed.

However, stranger things 4 delves into some of Eleven’s memories from her time at the Hawkins lab.

Fans believe they noticed a discrepancy between the character’s speech in the flashbacks and the presentation at the beginning of the series.

One viewer wrote: “stranger things Plot Hole: Eleven was unable to speak when she initially escaped and met Mike and the gang. Why is she able to speak full sentences in the flashbacks in Season 4?”

“The only plot hole in Eleven Memoirs is that she speaks too well, girl could barely say ‘no’ when we first met her,” wrote another.

“The most blatant plot hole in this season of stranger things If I remember correctly, El had to be taught to speak when she escaped in season 1, but now in these flashbacks she only speaks [fine]’ remarked someone else.

“Haven’t seen Season 1 in a long time but Hat Elf liked to forget how to speak when she escaped the lab because in her memories she was fluent and I thought that was weird,” wrote another fan remember, in Season 1 she was sort of a mute who was slowly learning how to speak.”

While it’s not known whether or not this was actually a gaffe by the show’s writers, one fan suggested that the trauma Eleven experienced in the lab may have caused her speech to regress.
