Stephen Fry wants to explicitly rant on GB News or TalkTV to refer to freedom of expression

Stephen Fry has said he wants to use swear words on GB News or TalkTV to poke holes in their model of ‘freedom of speech’.

the previous QI The host argued that while he thought freedom of expression was “important,” it shouldn’t be the end goal.

“You know what I wanted to do is go on something like that – isn’t Piers Morgan doing anything, is he doing GB News or something?” he asked The Dragon’s Lair Star Steven Bartlett on his podcast A CEO’s diary.

Morgan currently hosts the series Piers Morgan uncensored on the right news channel GB News.

Fry continued: “I was actually going to go ahead – now you have to cover your ears – and say, ‘Hi, how are you old c***? It’s fucking great to see you, you c***y, c***y, c*** c***.” And he said, ‘Sorry, you can’t say that.’ “Oh, I thought this was the home of free speech, right? I thought this was the damn home of free speech, didn’t it?

“But that’s not it. Oh, so freedom of speech is negotiable, so there’s parts you can’t say and parts you can say, because that’s the point. I mean, freedom of expression is important, of course, but it’s not the end.”

Fry added: “The end point is for people to live together as much as possible in peace and harmony and happiness, without war and violence and envy and resentment and bitterness… that’s the end point.

“But for some people, free speech has become the endpoint. “I want to live in a society where people can say anything … the only thing that matters is that I can say whatever I want.” I don’t think John Stuart Mill and all the original thinkers that came out about Freedom and Free Speech wrote that’s what they meant, and I don’t think that’s what I mean as the be-all and end-all.”

Fry’s comments on freedom of expression come less than a month after the actor said he “wouldn’t let down” the Harry Potter author, although some of his friends were “deeply upset” by JK Rowling’s comments about transgender people.

“I know JK Rowling doesn’t want trans people to be bullied, alienated, disfellowshipped, embarrassed, guilty, laughed at, all those things,” he said.

“It’s not an argument I want to get into because it’s annoying for both parties.” Stephen Fry wants to explicitly rant on GB News or TalkTV to refer to freedom of expression
