Stephanie Murphy says she won’t seek re-election in 2022

Florida Democracy Representative Stephanie Murphy said Monday that she will not run for re-election in 2022.

Her upcoming retirement, first report by Politico, is a blow to the Democrats’ moderate wings; Murphy confused a GOP chair based in Orlando in 2016 and rose to the top of the central Blue Dog Coalition.

“It’s been a real honor for me to serve in Congress, but it comes with a personal sacrifice,” Murphy told Politico. “My time away has been as difficult for my family and children as it has been for me.”

Third term congresswoman, a member of the January 6 Selection Committee, who has rumor likely to challenge Republican Senator Marco Rubio in 2022, not ruling out the possibility of running for office in the future.

“We’ll have to see what happens in the future,” she said.

Murphy’s retirement makes her the 22nd House Democrat not to seek re-election. Her announcement comes as Democrats face a potentially difficult 2022 election cycle, with Republican Party member capitalize on their opponents’ political trends as they try to topple House 221-213 and Senate 50-50.

Her decision also comes as Republicans in Florida’s legislature debate how to change the map of the state. While Murphy will have a clear path to re-election under the Florida State Senate suggestions, the new map of the State Building will her district torpedo.

“It was not an easy decision for me,” Murphy told Politico. “But it’s the one that suits me personally.”
