State senator introduces bills to give Oklahoma sheriff authority to arrest federal officers, form team to fight federal agents

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – An Oklahoma State Senator has introduced three bills designed to increase the powers of Oklahoma’s sheriff, including one that would give sheriffs the power to arrest federal officers seeking to confiscate firearms. .

State Senator Nathan Dahm, R-Broken Arrow, submitted the bills on Thursday.

“I have heard from numerous sheriffs and members across this state who are concerned about the disregard for our Constitution being perpetrated by this rogue regime,” Dahm said. “The Second Amendment is never just about hunting unless you are referring to tyrant hunting. It is about people being able to defend themselves against a government that will seek to disarm them.”

Senate Bill 1199 authorizes sheriffs to arrest federal officers attempting to seize firearms in Oklahoma.

Senate Bill 1200 requires federal agents and officers to obtain permission from the county sheriff before operating in their county.

Senate Bill 1201 expands the sheriff’s ability to form a possession team to include prohibiting federal government agents, employees, and officers from violating the constitutional rights of county residents. their.

“The totalitarian leftist takeover of a society has always been predicated on confiscation of weapons,” said Dahm. “Thankfully in Oklahoma, we have the sheriff of the county that would never allow that to happen. But we have to do everything we can to help them protect our interests, and this bill helps them do just that.”

Michael Crespin, Professor of Political Science and Director and Director of the Carl Albert Center for Congressional Studies and Research, said such legislation was written to accommodate far-right Republicans.

“There can be a fine line between extravagance and legitimate law. Perhaps a small fraction of the people would be happy if these bills were passed and become law and treat these bills as legal law,” Crespin said. “Republicans have a super majority in the legislature so there is some possibility that bills like this could gain traction. That said, proposing legislation like this is clearly aimed at the far right of the Republican Party and attracts a lot of media attention and potential fundraising.”
