Spain: Topless police wade into a frozen lake to rescue a dog

Two Spanish police officers passed the call of duty to rescue a dog in freezing temperatures.

The heroic policemen stripped off their uniforms and went topless before wading into a frozen reservoir and dragging the sick pet to safety.

One person used a large tree branch to break the thick layer of ice on the lake and approached the dog that had been trapped for hours.

He and a colleague then tried to create a path for the dog to swim back to safety before the three climbed to the shore.

Video posted and shared by authorities online captures the rescue mission in all its glory.

The dog was trapped in a reservoir in Canfranc, in Aragon, eastern Spain, ‘for a long time’ before police were called around 11am on Tuesday, the force said.

The Spanish Meteorological Agency forecast heavy snowfall and high winds in the northern regions of Spain on Wednesday.

To avoid congestion on roads, traffic authorities are advising people to return early after a five-day break that ends on Wednesday.
