Space Force: Fans want to cancel their Netflix subscriptions after the show was cancelled

The Netflix comedy space forces, starring Steve Carell, was canceled after two seasons.

There was a lot of hype surrounding the comedy prior to its 2020 launch when it starred Carell and the creator of the US version of The office, Greg Daniels, reunite. It was inspired by former President Donald Trump’s order to establish the Space Force as the sixth military branch. Carell played the leader of the armed forces, General Mark Naird.

Carell – who co-created the show with Daniels and was also executive producer – was paid $1 million (£795,000) per episode for the series, which also starred John Malkovich, Ben Schwartz, Tawny Newsome, Diana Silvers, Jimmy O Yang and Don Lake.

The first 10-episode season of Space Force aired in May 2020. It was cut to seven episodes for the second season, and production was also moved from Los Angeles to Vancouver to cut costs.

Both series received mixed reviews. The Independent gave the first – viewed by 40 million households – three stars, and critic Ed Cumming wrote: “The series struggles to get out of the greatest joke of all, that it’s based on a real US government agency. It’s more sketchy stuff than a series, and it would be funnier if it weren’t true.”

The Hollywood ReporterTV critic Angie Han called the second season “better than the first season, but still not very good”.

Critics might not have been impressed, but the show was loved by many viewers, who took to social media to express their disappointment at Space Force’s cancellation.

“I will never forgive Netflix for shutting down Space Force. wtf,” wrote one angry fan.

“At the start of the official Un Cancel Space Force campaign please Netflix let me have these,” added another.

Many said the cancellation tempted them to cancel their Netflix subscription altogether.

“Netflix canceled Space Force? You’re begging me to unsubscribe, aren’t you?” one person wrote.

The cancellation of space forces comes after the cancellation of other beloved shows, including Glow, Tuca and Bertie, Dark, Sense 8, Lady Dynamite and BoJack Horseman.

Netflix has also made a name for itself by reviving beloved series such as Arrested Development, Gilmore Girls, Black Mirror, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, andYou.
