Southwest Florida florists recommend shopping early for Valentine’s Day

FORT MYERS

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and several florists in Southwest Florida are facing supply chain shortages affecting their ability to prepare flower arrangements.

A flower shop in Southwest Florida is also dealing with a driver shortage. They are relying on family and friends to make deliveries.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom, you still have time to order those flowers.

Valentine’s Day is the biggest holiday of the year for florists.

Fort Myers Florist floral designer Kim Secino says, “a lot of work in a short amount of time.”

“This year is busier than last year. And last year was a record year for us,” said Jean Marie Rakich, general manager of Fort Myers Florist.

Valentine’s Day falls on a Monday this year and orders keep coming.

Fort Myers Florist desperately wants more hands to answer the phone and arrange bouquets, but Rakich says it can be difficult to find help.

“We had a lot of interviews for people who never even showed up for interviews. And then we hired a few people, and they didn’t even show up to work. “

Rakich asked her family and friends for help.

Jessica Gnagey, co-owner of Ruth Messmer Florist, said supply chain issues have not yet affected her business too much.

“It’s just a little bit harder to get items that are commissions, especially from South America,” says Gnagey.

Valentine’s Day best-selling roses.

“We can very easily be wiped out by red roses,” says Gnagey. So right now, I have some. By Saturday, Sunday, Monday, I have enough stock, I don’t know”.

If you’re waiting until the last minute, florists’ best advice is to shop around.

“For flowers, it doesn’t affect us at all,” says Rakich. We are pretty full on everything that we have. ”

Both Rakich and Gnagey say the sooner you get your order in, the better.

They should be able to handle last minute calls on Valentine’s Day. There may be less to choose from.
