Southwest Edgecombe High School student uses an airsoft on a school bus

PINETOPS, NC (WNCN) — A student at Southwest Edgecombe High School pulled out a toy airsoft gun and began firing as students loaded buses Friday afternoon, according to deputies.

As students from the school loaded the bus to leave school for the summer, a 15-year-old boy pulled an airsoft-style toy gun from his backpack and began shooting at other students, according to a press release from the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office .

No students were injured in this attack.

A nearby teacher saw the incident and confiscated the gun and the student. The School Resource Officer Lieutenant was contacted immediately.

The school resources clerk then employed at the school obtained juvenile complaints against the offending student for disorderly conduct and possession of a weapon other than a firearm on school property.

Sheriff Cleveland Atkinson said in the press release that “this behavior will not be tolerated in ECPS and our community.”
