Southern California Men’s Athlete of the Week, February 4 – San Bernardino Sun

Each week, publications from 11 Southern California News Group properties (Orange County Register, LA Daily News, Press-Enterprise, San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Long Beach Press-Telegram, The Daily Breeze, San Bernardino Sun, Daily) Bulletin, Redlands Daily Facts, Whittier Daily News and Pasadena-Star News) select Athletes of the Week for their respective regions.

After that, each athlete will be entered into the Southern California Best Athlete vote.

Isaac Ochoa, Bishop of Amat: The Lancers forward scored six goals in two wins in the league last week. He had a hat trick in the 4-0 win over Bishop Montgomery, and he scored two goals in the 6-0 win over St. Genevieve. The Lancers (11-4-4, 3-1-1) have won three games in a row in the Del Rey League to head into this week’s big games against Salesian and Cathedral.

Will Householter, Mira Costa: Householter averaged 17 points, five rebounds and four assists in Mira Costa’s four-game winless streak. He had 27 points, 12 rebounds overnight in the win over Culver City. Householter helped Mustang earn the top seed in the Bay League.

Kydyn Lima, Millikan: Lima helped the Rams dominate their two games in the CIF-SS Double Meet Championship and progress to Wednesday’s Division 4 final at home to South Torrance. The Rams beat Lawndale 76-6 in the quarterfinals and Cypress 78-3 in the semifinals. Last month Lima placed third in the prestigious Five County meeting and he ranked ninth in the state with 152 pounds by CalGrappler.com. Millikan is trying to win its first CIF-SS title since 2010.

Barrington Hargress, Heritage Christians: Hargress was the catalyst for Heritage Christian’s recent winning streak. He scored 13 points in the team’s win over Valley Christian, 19 points in the win over Shadow Hills, then 30 in the Warriors’ 57-45 win over Village Christian. The point guard is averaging 19.6 points per game this season.

Donovan Dent, Centennial: Dent, the reigning IE Varsity basketball player of the year, delivered some great performances for the Huskies last week. He scored a top 20 in the game as Centennial beat Riverside Poly 62-37 in a game against the Open Division contenders. Dent, who signed with New Mexico, topped the week with a 31-point effort as the Huskies cleared their double-digit deficit early and eventually beat Coronado (Nevada) 80-71 in extra time in the Nike Extravaganza at Mater Dei.

Alejandro Hernandez, West: Hernandez won 3-0 with two goals at £220 in the qualifying round of the CIF Southern Regional Double Meeting Championship. Western advances to Division 6 on its final Wednesday at home against Corona del Mar. Hernandez was the team’s captain for the past two seasons. “His motivation never stops,” said Western coach Jaime Flores. “He kept chasing you for the whole six minutes of the game.”
