Sonic the Hedgehog 2: First reactions see critics “losing their minds” because of the sequel.

The first critical reactions to Sonic the Hedgehog 2 are in – and it’s fair to say that the word is promising.

An adaptation of Sega’s hit video game franchise and a 2020 sequel Sonic the Hedgehogthe film sees Ben Schwartz, James Marsden and Jim Carrey reprising their roles as Sonic, Tom Wachowski and Doctor Eggman respectively.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 also introduces Idris Elba and Colleen O’Shaughnessey to the main cast.

Elba plays the struggling Echidna Knuckles, who appears here as the film’s antagonist, while O’Shaughnessey plays Sonic’s friend Tails, a role she has also voiced in several Sonic games.

Although full reviews of the film have not yet been released, some critics have shared their verdicts of the film on social media.

screen rant‘s Ash Crosson wrote: “#SonicMovie2 is a worthy successor. The children in my theater were crying. It has all the winks, nods, nostalgia and laughs that fans of the first film could ever want, and feels more true to its gaming roots than ever.”

geeks of color‘s Dorian Parks wrote: “#SonicMovie2 is a true love letter to the blue blur. It takes everything you loved about the first film and gives you so much more. #Tails and #Knuckles are awesome additions and Jim Carrey as #Robotnik is even crazier!

“#SonicMovie2 is EVERYTHING I wanted, filled with moments I didn’t know I was allowed to ask,” wrote Dana Abercrombie. “It makes the first #Sonic look like a breeze.

“I’ve seen children and adults go insane together. Overall, it made my heart smile and I can’t wait for the sequel.”

“#SonicTheHedgehog 2 is a sonic blast of nostalgic fun,” wrote Mike Reyes. “A little more story and story expansion from Sonic 1 than I expected which is fantastic.

“Knuckles and Tails are beautiful additions to the cast. And I was blown away by the surprises this film had in store.”
