Snapchat responds to “creepy” AI activity after chatbot posted mysterious photo on Story

Snapchat users were left confused and concerned yesterday after the My AI feature posted an unusual story about a cap. Why is that happend?

Social media went into a frenzy after Snapchat users found out their My AI feature had uploaded a mysterious photo to their story.

This is the first time it has occurred, but it seriously confused users as it was not known if the system was capable of it. When Snapchatters questioned artificial intelligence, it either brushed aside the question or made up answers without providing factual explanations.

Snapchat has now responded to the disruption.

Why did my Snapchat AI post a story?

Snapchat confirmed on Wednesday that the platform was experiencing technical issues. “My AI experienced a temporary outage which is now resolved,” a spokesman told the media. However, it was not about the usual photo of an apparent ceiling.

The image in question showed two interlocking colors – purple and beige – leading to speculation that it was a photo of the ceiling, secretly taken by a phone’s front camera. Many initially believed Snapchat had hacked their camera, but when many posted their complaints on Twitter, they found that everyone involved’s AI had uploaded the same image.

The photo was quickly removed, but when questioned, My AI sent error messages claiming there were “technical issues.” Other users received “suspicious” replies when they ignored the request, such as “Hey, I’m a little busy right now. Can we catch up later?”

For further questions, the chatbot made up strange excuses: “Sometimes I like to get a little creative with my stories. Is there anything in particular that you found strange?” said one.

Can you get rid of my AI?

You cannot remove the My AI feature from your account as it is part of the Snapchat system. However, you can remove “My AI” at the top of your chat feed if you are a Snapchat+ subscriber.

  1. Go to Snapchat
  2. Swipe right from the camera screen to go to the chat screen
  3. Press and hold “My AI”.
  4. Click Chat Settings
  5. Select “Delete from chat feed”.

Snapchat users recall ‘terrifying’ AI activity

While the insane AI activity has many concerned, some have suggested it may be a Snapchat stunt to encourage discussion and users. According to Twitter, this has had the opposite effect, with some users threatening to delete the app.

Nevertheless, several funny memes were circulating on the Internet:
