Smoking couple left ‘blisters and burns’ after buying fake sunscreen while on holiday

A couple have warned travelers to be careful after they apparently bought fake sunscreen while on holiday and found it burned and blistered.

TikTok user Lauren Tyler shared a video of her and her partner vacationing Thailand.

In the video, which has been viewed more than 41,000 times, she wrote, “Me and my boyfriend are having the time of our lives until we bought fake sunscreen.”

She then shared pictures of the two on their vacation, posing for photos on paddle boards and on the beach.

However, she then cut to a picture of them in their rooms that showed her burned all over her body.

She wrote in the caption, “Imagine putting fake sunscreen on a baby or child.”

She explained that they went through a whole bottle together and were only out for two hours but still burned so badly and even had blisters on their shoulders.

Some people said she wasn’t using enough, to which Lauren replied, “We’ve been here for a week and kept applying. Buy a Thai one and this happened on day one.

“I used factor 50 in the sun for 7 days and was unaffected by it. It’s not my first day in pale school, the sunscreen was fake.”

Many others were stunned and told their own stories.

Someone said, “Oh my god, that was used randomly a few weeks ago”.

Another person said, “I’m sorry this happened to you!”

Experts have explained how much and how often you should be apply sunscreen.

dr Marko Lens, a skin cancer specialist, told The Sun Online: “The right amount is one teaspoon for the entire face and neck and it should be reapplied every two hours when exposed to the sun.

“I always recommend a broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF (sun protection factor) 30 as it offers high protection against UVA and UVB.

“If we sweat excessively or swim, we should reapply the sunscreen 40 or 80 minutes after swimming, depending on whether the sunscreen is waterproof or very waterproof.”

The lips are often forgotten in the sunalong with the feet and the parting of the hair, so make sure you put sunscreen on it too.
