Smash Ultimate per MKLeo Twitter is hacked by NFT advertisers

Leonardo “MkLeo” López is considered one of the best players in the Super Smash Ultimate scene, but he recently became the target of an attempt to lure fans into a potential NFT scam.

The NFT scene, one already riddled with scams, carpet pulls and others drastically harmful environmental influences, got a little muddy today. MkLeo had his Twitter hacked and tricked his followers into high-priced purchases of a deal that didn’t exist.

According to tweets from Ryan “L4st” Krichbaum, The Box Runner and Community Tech Manager for Team Liquid, MkLeo reached out to him with a request to publicize the Smash player’s plight.

“It looks like my twitter has been hacked. I can’t access. I’ve tried everything you could [please] tweet about it?”

After the initial request, Leo asked Ryan to retweet the hacking message to let people know it was a scam and that he was not endorsing the alleged “collaboration” with the shady NFT project.

The hacker message itself was a sight that eventually became standard. First, a fairly innocuous “big announcement is coming” post, followed by a request for MkLeo fans to buy an NFT with a “TBA coin date” for “+10 ETH”.

This prompts the ultimate smash champ’s fanbase to pay more than $30,000 for a potential pic at an unknown date.

Thankfully, members of Lopez’s vast community were smart enough not to take the bait. As many wrote, “If you call it now, the hacker will post some crypto junk.” Blow up in their claims.

Aside from L4st, there were a number of content creators that reinforced the message not to bother with the tweets of the hackersand indicates the unreliability of what you see on the Internet on any given day.

As it stands now, the tweets have been deleted, which hopefully indicates MkLeo is back in control of his Twitter account, but there hasn’t been any formal statement or statement from the world number one yet.
