It happened six months after Geronimo – imported from the country Down Under – was set down after a protracted fight fearing he had contracted bovine tuberculosis.

Owner Helen Macdonald insists it’s illegal to destroy him – and continued to fight Defra officials after Autopsy found no trace of disease.

Leonie and Neville Walker, who own Geronimo’s daughter La Cherie, revealed the arrival of their grandson yesterday just hours after giving birth.

Just 12 days after Geronimo’s 9th birthday.

They said the all-black youngster was “very hyperactive” and raced around his mother but was soon “tired and in need of a drink and a nap”.

They shared a photo of the mother and baby together on their farm, and said she had been “a doting mother and always talking to him”.

The couple keep 950 alpacas – animals known as camels for their ability to spit – near Taumarunui on the North Island.

They wanted to name the newborn baby starting with the letter “P” to match the rest of the pack born this year.

Before Geronimo left them, he mate with three females and had another grandson, Oakwood, but he was brown in color.

When it arrived in the UK, it was isolated from other alpacas on Helen’s farm in Wickwar, Gloucs, so there were no other animals while in the UK.

Helen said she was “delighted” to hear of the birth of her grandson.

She told The Sun: “Geronimo’s new grandson will ensure that its legacy and spirit live on. Always.”

She added that Geronimo’s cows originated in New Zealand “there was not even a suspicion” of bovine tuberculosis for 26 years.

She insisted he was “unnecessarily caught and killed” and accused Defra of making false statements about Geronimo’s bovine tuberculosis six months later.

She said: ‘It is still hard for me and all those who witnessed such unwarranted cruelty. There needs to be a public inquiry and reform of bTB policy. ”
