Skateboarder Taylor Silverman rips trans competitors who win

A female skateboarder freaks out about transgender athletes being allowed to compete in women’s events — and says it’s costing her thousands of dollars in prize money.

“I’m sick of being silenced,” Taylor Silverman, 27, complained on Instagram on Wednesday, already garnering more than 17,000 likes and a spate of attacks accusing her of being transphobic.

Silverman, from Kalamazoo, Michigan, complained that she’s entered “three different competitions with trans women, two of which I came runner-up to.”

She shared a letter she wrote to Red Bull complaining about the “unfair” competition she faced in the Cornerstone competition, which Skateboard Blogs says was won by trans skater Lilian Gallagher.

“A biological male with a clear advantage won the women’s division, best trick, and also won multiple qualifiers,” Silverman wrote in the message.

“It took away the opportunity that was meant for women to place and make money,” she wrote to Erich Dummer, Red Bull’s senior sports marketing manager.

In her post, Silverman detailed how Gallagher — whom she didn’t name — took home a total of “$5,000 of the prize money for the female athletes.”

“I deserved to take first place, be recognized for my win and get paid,” she said, complaining that she was “ignored” by Red Bull.

Silverman received a steady stream of messages of support, including some calls for a boycott of events where trans skaters competed.

“I’m proud of you speaking up!” another skateboarder told her. “Live your truth and always stand up for what you believe in like everyone else should.”

However, she was also crushed in a barrage of angry messages accusing her of being a bad loser and being transphobic.

“‘I’m not a transphobe’ is what transphobes say after tagging every transphobe they can think of in their transphobic post,” one person wrote.

Piers Morgan – who interviewed Silverman on his new TV show Thursday – said that “the abuse she suffered from the trans community was appalling”.

Blogger Christina Buttons tweeted this “The amount of vitriol Taylor Silverman is exactly why more women don’t come forward when biological males enter their sport category.”

“Hundreds of offensive comments pour in every hour for a select few who offer support,” she noted.

she named Silberman “Incredibly brave to speak out to defend her sporting category. Not many can tolerate the onslaught of abuse she must endure.”

However, some of the support she received should help her — with blogger Tim Pool saying his Timcast will “happily pick up the difference and grant Taylor Silverman the lost $2250 difference.”

“We also stand ready to cover all of the lost revenue for the female athletes who would have ranked better without the male athlete.” Pool tweeted.

Neither Gallagher nor Red Bull appear to have responded to the criticism. Red Bull did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Skateboarder Taylor Silverman rips trans competitors who win
