Chalino Sanchez receives a ‘death note’ on a live show.

Chalino passed away on May 16, 1992 at the young age of 32. However, the death of the legend is mysterious. He often sang so-called “narcocorridos”, also called “drug ballads” in English. His lyrics focused on the true story of drug dealers and the drug cartel in Mexico. He often sang about the underworld and criminal activities in Mexico. As such, Chalino’s music was considered controversial by many.

During his last live performance, which was caught on camera, he was handed what appeared to be a death threat by a fan. The musician, who wore his signature large white hat with a beige suit, undid it mid-performance while his band was still playing. The chilling moment shows Chalino reading the note before looking up and wiping sweat from his brow.

He takes a moment to collect his thoughts, then nods to someone on the side of the stage before continuing to sing as if nothing happened. Many fans believe Chalino wiped his sweat after realizing this could be his last appearance ever. The singer’s latest video still gives goosebumps to viewers who know he passed away hours after receiving the news.

How did the singer die?

Chalino was shot dead in Culiacan, Sinaloa, in 1992 after his last concert, where he received the “death letter.” The singer was found the next morning.

At that point he had been married to his wife Marisela Vallejos Felix for four years. The couple shared two children, son Adan Chalino Sanchez and daughter Cynthia Sanchez Vallejo. Chalino’s son Adan died tragically in a car accident in 2004 at the age of 20.

The true identity of Chalino’s killer still remains a mystery despite many theories.

Nobody knows exactly why Chalino Sanchez was killed

Nobody knows the exact reason for Chalino’s murder. Several theories have surfaced over the years that he took revenge for shooting a party in Culiacan when he was a teenager. Others claimed the drug cartels wanted him dead because of his lyrics, which exposed their way of life.

Another wild theory is that he may have been involved in a love triangle with a drug lord. Other theories state that he had ties to a drug dealer. However, no one knows for sure.
