Simon Gregson is one of the competitive celebrities I’m a celebrity… Get me out of here! Year 2021.

The actor is a very familiar face to many British audiences, having played the role of Steve McDonald on ITV soap Opening the street for more than three decades.

Gregson, who grew up in Stockport, has won multiple British Soap Awards for his performance as McDonald, whom he has played since 1989.

In addition to Corrie, Gregson appeared on the show All Star Family Fortunes, a special celebrity of Slogan and The Haunted House of the Celebrity, which he won.

In the ’90s, Gregson made headlines for numerous traffic violations and alcohol and drug related problems.

Talking to Mirror in 2014, he said: “Me and my friends would get dangerously drunk. We were really stupid. I was completely wild. I would pay people to stay in hotel suites. I’ll have a bottle of Scotch at 4 or 5 a.m. after the pub. I spent all my paycheck going out or taking a car.

“Sometimes I’m two hours late for work. Other times, I’m not there at all. I didn’t take it seriously and I didn’t want to be there. I hate being famous. I’m not proud of my behavior, but wasting is a way to forget.”

He added: “Cocaine use goes hand in hand with alcohol abuse. I started smoking marijuana first.

“Reality isn’t so great so this alternative reality with substance use is a better place. At first it was an experiment and I could afford it. I spent a lot on it. It changed who I am.”

Gregson has been married to longtime partner Emma Gleave since 2010. They have three sons.
