TalkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino said Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool could have the same problem with Ryan Gravenberch as Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United with Donny van de Beek.
Tony Cascarino has said further talkSPORT that he hopes he is wrong about Ryan Gravenberch, who joined Liverpool from Bayern Munich on the last day of the summer window.
The former Chelsea player said that Ajax players often struggle in the Premier League and pointed out that Donny van de Beek has failed to make a big impression at Manchester United.
The 26-year-old Netherlands international has been in the United squad since 2020 and struggled at Old Trafford.
Van de Beek was also on loan at Everton in 2022.
Cascarino said: “I’m always a bit suspicious of (players) going through Ajax academy, if I’m being honest.
“They produce fantastic technical players but I always feel a little bit maybe it’s a bit different because he’s a big boy physically.
“I’ve seen people like Klaassen go to Everton who felt a little lightweight. I think Donny van de Beek has proved a similar problem at Manchester United where they are all technical and brilliant and can do the things that are expected at Ajax as a football club.
“Gravenberch, I don’t know exactly. I hope I’m wrong.”
Liverpool should have faith in Ryan Gravenberch
In our opinion, Liverpool fans shouldn’t be worried about Ryan Gravenberch.
Yes, Gravenberch failed to make a big breakthrough at Bayern Munich, but the fact that the Bundesliga champions signed him from Ajax Amsterdam in the summer of 2022 shows just how high his standing is in the footballing community.
And he’s only 21.
Gravenberch could take a while to adjust to the Premier League and adapt manager Jurgen Klopp’s system at Liverpool, but we have no doubt the youngster would be a success at Anfield.
The Netherlands international is a very good and capable midfielder who is versatile.
