Signing Day part of a busy week for North Shore High School highlights

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – After North Shore High School featured Jacoby Brass and Kris Ross signed on to college scholarships Wednesday, they told ABC13 this day it’s not just them.

“My mother raised me when I was little,” admits Ross, a Texas Longhorns signer. “She’s been a single mom for a while, so she’s doing all she has to do.”

“I was one of the first in my family to do something like this,” said Brass, who signed with Houston Baptist. “I love dressing up for my mom. She’s done so many things for me, so I know this scholarship will stress her out a lot.”

But it’s not just families like Brass and Ross taking part in National Signing Day. Their teammates on the North Shore were running after them on the field.

“Those two will be the first to tell you: whatever success they have is a direct result of their teammates,” explained North Shore soccer head coach Jon Kay. “We’ll have more kids signing in February. It’s great to put the show on display.”

The show will be on display this weekend – on the state’s largest stage. Immediately after the signing ceremony, North Shore conducted the practice. Why? Because on Saturday, the Mustang will compete for a state championship.

“There’s a lot to come in a week,” Ross revealed. “However, it feels good. It’s a great feeling that not everyone has and I’m lucky enough to have.”

As Kris said…it’s a lot. And it was also the last week at the North Shore. So, to ease the pressure on himself, Denver Harris – the fourth highest rated recruit in Texas according to ESPN – chose not to sign on Wednesday.

“There was a lot of stuff on my plate and my stuff,” admitted Harris. “All the injuries and my stuff, you know? The National Championship is also coming and the signing date. It’s a lot of things, so I want to wait.”

Harris said he’ll announce his college pick: Texas A&M, Texas, LSU, or Alabama after Saturday’s state title game. Because this week at the North Shore, in addition to the scholarship being inked, there is a focus on other signage: hanging another state championship sign on the wall of the Mustangs football facility.
