SI swimsuit model Yumi Nu shamed as ‘not pretty’ – fans fight back

A controversial clinical psychologist and YouTuber has some thoughts on model Yumi Nu’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Cover.

dr Jordan Peterson Quote-Tweeted the story from The Post on the plus-size model’s cover debut on Monday, he wrote: “Sorry. Not nice. No amount of authoritarian tolerance will change that.”

“‘Authoritarian’? Chunky women on magazine covers? You sound like a parody of yourself.” one Twitter user – of many – challenged the bestselling author.

“It’s a deliberate progressive attempt to manipulate and reshape the notion of beauty, based on the idiotic philosophy that such preferences are learned and properly modified by those who know better,” Peterson replied, with two links to scholarly studies on attractiveness .

“But don’t let the facts stop you,” he concluded.

The Canadian bestselling author of 12 Rules For Life is known to his nearly 5 million YouTube subscribers as a conservative intellectual who shared his views on cultural and political issues.

The Post has reached out to Peterson’s attorney for comment.

Social media commentators reacted violently to his comments, with some urging the intellectual to open up about the history of beauty standards.

“Beauty standards change over time. Also, you have published two studies that do not support your position.” wrote one user.

“He’s always been a parody of an ‘intellectual’ psychologist, dummies.” said another.

“These authoritarians force us to accept people for who they are… What a hellscape.” Another user commented.

Still, some seemed to agree with at least some of Peterson’s criticisms, refining Nu’s oversized physique.

“Let’s be honest. She’s beautiful. Heavy set… but still beautiful,” another interfered.

“By the real brothers…if she shed the extra pounds she’d be a 10.” said one.

“She’s beautiful, but I’d rather be in a little better shape, especially if I was on the cover of a magazine in a bathing suit. But undoubtedly beautiful and decent proportions.” another wrote.

Twitch streamer HasanAbi replied with an unflattering image by Peterson alongside the psychologist’s caption. However, users have slammed him for the photo, saying it was taken at a low point in Peterson’s life.

Nu, a curvy Asian model, told the Post that she thought she was heading to a weekly meeting with her agent when a camera crew surprised her with the cover.

“I could not speak. I had chills all over my body. I trembled, I cried. They made me really good,” Nu said.

“It’s wonderful. I’m on cloud nine. I couldn’t prepare for this. It’s unexpected,” she continued. “I feel like we’re at a point right now where people are making room for more diversity on the covers of magazines. It’s a big time for Asian American people in the media. I know I play a big part in representing body diversity and racial diversity, and I love being a role model and representative of the Asian plus -size community.”
