Shell Freedom Over Texas: Houston officials, advertising artists, looked forward to a packed crowd at the July 4th event

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – We are just days away from Shell Freedom Over Texas, the city’s annual Fourth of July extravaganza.

This year’s event, which country music star Clay Walker is making headlines about, marks the return to Eleanor Tinsley Park after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

City officials are already working on the scene. Even the heat and the Friday rain didn’t spoil the mood.

“It’s exciting to be able to produce a show that all Houstonians can come to,” said Susan Christian, director of special events for the mayor’s office. “Were excited.”

Not only the city is looking forward to the annual tradition.

The cast, including Blanco Brown, Sawyer Brown and Walker, are also ready to take the stage.

“Well, I have this kind of ‘leave all your problems at home and leave all your greatness on stage’ mentality,” singer Blanco Brown said. “All I know is when you get to that stage, just give it your all or don’t give your all.”

Walker feels the same way and says he loves playing for his home fans in Southeast Texas.

“There’s nothing quite like looking outside and seeing your hometown skyline and seeing your fans who really are more like family to you,” Walker said.

You can hear more from the cast during Houston: Red, White, and Wow! on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. on ABC13.

ABC13 is the exclusive television partner of the event. You can watch it on air Monday at 7pm and on our streaming app.
