“She was an amazing young lady,” Mom says of the loss of a teenager in the Raleigh accident

RALEIGH NC (WNCN) — In early December, Suzanne Dealfaraz experienced what no parent should go through and said goodbye to her daughter after a man hit her with his car and killed her.

“It accompanies me every morning, every night, every day, second by second,” Dealfaraz said.

State police officers said a man struck and killed 17-year-old Ashlee Llagostera, a Rolesville High School student, as she was walking down Louisburg Road in the early hours of December 3.

Troopers believe the driver, Wendel Ramirez-Silva, 27, was impaired.

“I don’t wish that on anyone. Nobody,” Dealfaraz said. “This is a club I don’t want anyone to go to.”

Preliminary data from the Governor’s Highway Safety Program shows that more than 250 pedestrians died in accidents on North Carolina’s roads last year alone.

“Talk to your kids about the dangers out there, especially during prom season and graduation and all that,” Dealfaraz said. “Everyone seems to go a little wild.”

Speaking to CBS 17, Dealfaraz wanted her message out now that prom and the summer season are fast approaching and poses a higher risk for teens who are late at night and/or out and about.

She said if sharing her story prevents the death of another teenager, it means her daughter’s death wasn’t in vain.

“That’s all I have left of her and I want to make people aware of it,” Dealfaraz said.

Currently, Ramirez-Silva has been charged with felonies involving death by vehicle, reckless driving and driving with a suspended driver’s license.
