‘She-Hulk’ Star on ‘Obsession’ with Female Marvel Hero Bodies

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law actress Tatiana Maslany laments the unrealistic body standards that come with being a female superhero.

Addressing pop culture’s infatuation with super muscular heroes, the star of the new Marvel series, which debuted Thursday on Disney+, told Entertainment Tonight that she loves “She-Hulk” because “she has a different body and a different perception from the outside represented”.

“I think there’s a cultural obsession with body type that accompanies these movies at times,” said Maslany, who plays attorney and She-Hulk herself Jennifer Walters. “I definitely fell victim to that idea and I definitely don’t think we should pursue that because it’s just these weird standards that none of us can really keep up with unless we go 1,000 times.” a day to the gym week.”

The 36-year-old, who has appeared in ‘Orphan Black’ and ‘Parks and Recreation,’ said she loves her character because “how people see her is so much a part of her story.”

“That, to me, is a really exciting conversation that can lead to, which is, how do we look at someone differently depending on what body they inhabit?” she said. “She’s very self-deprecating. She kind of has this superhero thing about her, but she’s a very insecure person who’s obsessed with her job and tries to pretend she’s not a superhero.”

Maslany recently slammed the trope of a “strong female lead” in an interview with the Guardian earlier this month, explaining how it feels “reductive”.

“It’s just as much a nuance scraping and just as much a trope,” said Maslany. “It’s a box no one fits in. The sentence itself is frustrating. It’s like we should be thankful that we can be that.”

Jamil, 36, hilariously revealed at the show’s premiere Monday that she injured her asshole doing stunts.

“I was in pain in places I really didn’t know existed. You’ll probably have to blow this out, but I pulled a muscle up my A-hole,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “I didn’t know that was possible.”
