However, many fans thought that Shakira’s highly anticipated performance at the 2023 MTV VMAs was actually just her lip syncing.

Shakira was the crowning queen of the 2023 VMAs. The singer appeared on stage in a sultry, shimmering nude outfit. The singer wore a low-cut top paired with a tiny skirt. A nude thread-cut mesh bodysuit worn under her top and skirt completed her look.

The 46-year-old icon let down her long hair. Her outfit showcased the mother-of-two’s enviable and toned figure. As she took the stage, Shakira sang a medley of She Wolf, Whenever Wherever and Hips Don’t Lie.

The international superstar’s VMAs performance consisted of intense dance moves. At the show, she was also honored with the coveted Video Vanguard Award, which honors the award winner’s life’s work. However, after Shakira’s performance at the 2023 VMAs, fans were convinced that she was lip-syncing.

HITC and GRV Media have reached out to Shakira for comment on the lip sync speculation.

Fans believe Shakira lip-synced at the 2023 VMAs

“I love Shakira but the lip syncing is a little obvious at this #VMAs,” one fan said.

“Shakira said this is a VIDEO award y’all gonna get a lip sync,” a second commented.

“There’s no way they’re doing all this to make Shakira lip sync for 10 minutes, what’s the point?” said a third person.

“Shakira, we said ‘NSYNC’ not ‘lip sync,'” another fan hilariously said.

However, one fan thought the alleged lip sync was a good idea.

In addition to Shakira, other performers at the 2023 VMAs included Anitta, Demi Lovato, Diddy, who also received the Global Icon Award, Doja Cat, Fall Out Boy, Karol G, Maneskin, Megan Thee Stallion, Olivia Rodrigo and Peso Pluma.

Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, LL Cool J, Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj were among the performers in the 50th anniversary hip-hop segment.
