Selena Gomez made a rare comment addressing a fan’s complaint on her most recent TikTok. In her latest video, the pop star paired her reaction with a post by Dr Dawn Bentel explaining the definition of “heavy” drinking. “CDC defines heavy drinking as 15 or more drinks per week for men and eight or more drinks per week for women,” explains Bentel in the video as Gomez was seen cowering shyly.
Gomez captioned her post “it was a joke”, but some of her followers didn’t seem to think it was a joke. “So one of your best friends gives you her kidney and you keep drinking. Damn Selena,” one follower commented. Gomez replied, “That’s a joke a—.” Gomez underwent a kidney transplant In 2017 due to her lupus, and her replacement kidney was donated by her friends and colleagues. Francia Raisa.

In 2020, Gomez was offended by a joke made in Saved by Bell reboot when a group of characters are arguing over who should be her kidney donor, name removed demi Lovato and Justin Bieber. “Selena is really upset because Saved by Bell scene about her health and was seen as bullying and insulting, “a source told ET at that time. “She feels as if her kidney transplant and others who have gone through it, are being used as a joke at her expense.”
The show’s producers had to issue an apology for the joke. “We’re sorry. We never intended to shed light on Selena’s health. We’ve reached out to her team and will be making a donation to her charity, The Selena Gomez Fund for Lupus Research at USC, “their statement read, per Diversity. The publication reached out to Gomez’s representatives for comment, but they did not immediately respond. These references not only drew widespread criticism from fans, but Francia Raisa, Gomez’s friend, who donated a kidney to the singer, also spoke out about the controversy on social media. She acknowledged apologies from those behind the show but noted that she wanted people to take the situation seriously.
“Sincere apologies but let’s not forget the sponsors who are likely to feel offended and excluded from the spray painting written on the wall,” Raisa wrote on Twitter. “As a kidney donor, I want to show my love and let other kidney donors know that you are not alone. You are seen. You are appreciated. You are brave and act forgetful. Your self is very appreciated and respected!”
