UPDATE 6:00 PM PT – Wednesday, December 8, 2021
Scott Peterson will serve life in prison without parole after his death sentence was overturned.
The convicted murderer appeared in a San Mateo courthouse on Wednesday. Peterson spent more than 15 years on death row for killing his wife, Laci, and unborn son, Connor, in 2002.
The California Supreme Court overturned his death sentence last year after determining that prospective jurors had been incorrectly fired because of the way they answered questions related to the death penalty.
During Wednesday’s hearing, Laci Peterson’s mother said Scott had never shown remorse, grief or grief for his murdered wife and unborn son. The Laci family was overwhelmed with emotions, while Peterson sat in attendance expressionless.
“Laci is dead, Scott, because she loves you. She trusted you,” said Sharon Rocha, her mother. “And she believed in you, and you betrayed her, and your son, and all the others.”
Meanwhile, Peterson has continued to maintain his chastity throughout the years.
Laci Peterson disappeared from home on Christmas Eve 2002, while eight months pregnant. Scott was arrested upon the discovery of Laci and the remains of her unborn son found on the shores of San Francisco Bay in April 2003.
