Salvador Ramos’ father is seen at a Texas school for the first time since the shooting

The distraught father of 18-year-old Texas school gunman Salvador Ramos was publicly photographed Thursday for the first time since his son killed 19 children and two teachers at Robb Elementary School earlier in the week.

The photos show the teary-eyed 42-year-old father – also known as Salvador Ramos – hugging a visitor on his porch on the same day he broke his silence about his son’s massacre.

“I never expected my son to do something like that,” the father said in an interview with the Daily Beast.

“He should have just killed me, you know, instead of doing that to someone.”

The elder Ramos also apologized for his son’s terrible actions.

The father told the Daily Beast he hadn’t been much in his son’s life in the months leading up to the massacre, which he says was due to his job outside of Uvalde and the pandemic.

He said he was also away from his son because of the pandemic as he did not want to expose his own mother – who has cancer – to the virus. The COVID-19 restrictions put a strain on the duo’s relationship as his son refused to speak to him about a month ago.

He claimed his son was “a good person” who was bullied at school because of his clothes, which is why he dropped out of school.

“He was a quiet person who kept to himself. He didn’t bother anyone. People always bothered him,” said the father.
