Salvador Ramos: Everything we know about the mass shooter in Texas

A gunman who killed at least 18 students and three adults at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday has been named 18-year-old Salvador Ramos.

Gov. Greg Abbott said Ramos carried out the mass shooting “in an appalling and incomprehensible manner” alone before he was shot dead by law enforcement.

Ramos was a Uvalde High School student who lived in the small town 130 km (80 miles) west of San Antonio, according to Mr. Abbott.

He reportedly shot and killed his grandmother before driving to Robb Elementary just before noon on Tuesday, Mr Abbott said at a news conference on Tuesday afternoon.

Ramos is said to have left his car in front of the school and enters the school grounds with a handgun and possibly a rifle.

Officials who were there are said to have shot Romas. Two sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Uvalde Memorial Hospital said 13 students and one adult were taken to the school by bus and ambulance. Two of the students were pronounced dead upon arrival.

There was initially no further information about the condition of Ramos’ grandmother.

An Instagram account, identified by news outlets as belonging to Ramos, showed him posing with what appeared to be a semi-automatic weapon.

In a statement, Mr. Abbott said Texans mourned the victims of this “senseless crime and the community of Uvalde.”

The death toll of 18 students and one teacher is the deadliest attack on an elementary school since the 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, which killed 20 students and six teachers.

The death toll has risen steadily throughout the day, rising from 14 to 18 on Tuesday night.
