Saints sign Andy Dalton as another replacement for Jameis Winston

METAIRIE, La. — The Saints signed veteran quarterback Andy Dalton, giving New Orleans a second veteran signal caller behind returning starter Jameis Winston.

Dalton, whose signing was announced Tuesday by Saints general manager Mickey Loomis, is a former starter at Cincinnati and is now with his fourth team in four years, having spent his first eight with the Bengals.

Dalton, 34, played for Dallas in 2020 and played in eight games from six starts for Chicago last season, completing 63.1% of his passes for 1,515 yards with eight touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Texas native Dalton started in nine games for the Cowboys in 2020 when Dallas starter Dak Prescott was injured for much of the season. This season, Dalton completed 64.9% of his passes for 2,170 yards and 14 TDs while making eight interceptions.

Dalton’s signing gives New Orleans three full-time QBs, including Ian Book from Notre Dame’s fourth round for 2021.
