Sacramento hostage situation locks down nearby California elementary schools as SWAT team arrives

A PERSON may be held hostage by a suspect who allegedly fired a gun, Sacramento police said. Nearby schools in the area are under lockdown but no injuries have been reported.
Police said at least one person was inside a home in south Sacramento, armed. Crisis negotiators try to contact them.
Local residents were instructed by the authorities over the loudspeaker to open the front door “with nothing in their hands”.
KCRA 3’s Maricela De La Cruz reports that at least two SWAT vehicles are at the scene at 58th Street and Fruitridge Road.
According to De La Cruz, police gave away cigarettes and a cellphone to keep in touch with the person.
Part of the street was cordoned off by the police.
West Campus High School, Mark Twain and Peter Burnett elementary schools are on lockdown due to a spate of precautionary measures, Sacramento City’s unified school district said.
People are being urged to take alternative routes in the area, police said.
