Rusty gun shooting: Alec Baldwin cries as he denies pulling the trigger

Alec Baldwin gave my first interview since the shooting of the cameraman Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust.

The actor, who is said to have fired the fatal shot from what he believes is a safe “cold gun”, spoke to ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos on Tuesday (November 30).

Earlier on Wednesday, Stephanopoulos confirmed he and Baldwin talked for an hour and 20 minutes and that he called the conversation “tense”, “raw” and “very candid”.

Now, in a new clip shared by ABC from the interview, Baldwin can be seen crying and denying he pulled the trigger.

“The trigger wasn’t pulled, I didn’t pull the trigger,” he said. “I would never point a gun at anyone just triggering at them, never.”

He continued: “Someone put a live bullet in a gun – a bullet wasn’t even supposed to be on the property,” Baldwin added.

He went on to agree with Stephanopoulos, who asked him if this was “the worst thing that ever happened to him”. Baldwin replied “yes” and added: “” I think back, I think: ‘What could I have done?’ “

The interview will air on Thursday (December 2) at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. You can watch a clip from the interview here:

Speaking on ABC earlier on Wednesday, Stephanopoulos added that Baldwin was “very close” in his responses and told him in more detail about what happened on set.

“I have done thousands of interviews over the past twenty years at ABC over the years, but this is the most intense interview I have ever had,” he explains. [It was] too raw – as you can imagine, he was devastated. He is also very straightforward, he is very open, he answers every question. He talked about Halyna Hutchins, also talks about meeting with her family. [He] reviewed in detail what happened on set that day. ”

The shooting is currently under investigation, with a new search warrant Hints on how to shoot real bullets could have ended up on set.

Baldwin’s interview will be the first time the actor has spoken about the tragedy.

After Hutchins’ death, he said: “There are no words to express my shock and grief over the tragic accident that took her life. Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and co-worker we admire greatly.

“I am fully cooperating with the police investigation into how this tragedy happened and I am in contact with her husband offering his support and his family. My heart breaks for her husband, their son, and everyone who has ever known and loved Halyna.”

Trouble caused a wide debate about the use of firearms on set and whether they should be permanently replaced by slingshots and light airguns.

Hollywood stars, including Rian Johnson, are saying that gun effects should be added in post-production.
