Russell Westbrook’s wife Nina wants Skip Bayless to “do better” and has accused him of blocking her on Twitter after the Fox Sports analyst criticized her husband.
“Just found out @skipbayless blocked me on twitter… like I was the one [constantly] harassing him and calling his name,” Westbrook, a marriage and family therapist by training, wrote on her Instagram story on Friday, according to social media screenshots.
Bayless, known for outrageous comments and divisive tweets, continues to call the Lakers player “Westbrick‘ amid the Guard’s months-long gun battles.
“Mr. Bayless. i am a real person If you are able to use your platform to demean my husband and keep calling him out of his name then at least be mature enough to deal with the consequences of your actions,” Westbrook continued. “Don’t try to erase me from your reality to make your choices feel better.
“I’m still here. You don’t need to block me. Just be respectful and I have no reason to reply or remind you of your reckless choices. Just make it better.”
Later, other social media screengraps showed an obvious one Tweet deleted by Westbrook, which read, “I was wrong…Twitter fingers.” I’m not blocked and can reply to his tweets, which I’m happy to do. :).”
In another tweet, Westbrook, a former UCLA basketball player, urged Bayless to apologize to her husband.
“I’m tired of you @RealSkipBayless calling my man out of his name. It’s extremely childish. That’s my name too, and a lot of other people’s names. You are disrespectful and I am very offended by your behavior. You should apologize.”
Bayless later acknowledged Westbrook’s deleted tweet, replying with, “Dear Ms. Westbrook, Thank you for clarifying that I didn’t block you. I have never blocked anyone and never will. I welcome your criticism and appreciate your defending your husband. But I will continue to tell the truth as I see it.”
Last week, Bayless questioned why the Lakers were traded to Westbrook, whose poor performance this season landed him on the bench.
The Lakers acquired Westbrook last summer hoping to form a Big 3 with James and Anthony Davis, but the point guard has struggled to find his rhythm with the roster.
Westbrook, 33, averages 18.1 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.2 assists on 43.4 percent shooting from the field and 28.4 percent from deep.
The (28-35) Lakers play the (24-40) Spurs in San Antonio on Monday night.
