‘Run like a cheetah’: Jamie O’Hara says player who Tottenham sold for £11m was ‘so underrated’

Jamie O’Hara has named former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele as someone who could potentially be one of the Premier League’s greatest ‘street footballers to remember’.

The pundit-turned-footballer explained that Mousa Dembele was ‘built like a sofa’ but he ‘walked like a cheetah’, as he posted on Twitter.

In 2019, after a series of injuries hurt his chances of appearing in the Premier League, Tottenham sold their ball-carrying expert to Chinese club Guangzhou R&F for £11m (The guard).

He was only 31 at the time and it was a shame that a player of his ilk at that age had to drop a league behind for his body to cope.

But when his engine was running, whether for Fulham or Spurs, he was very, very difficult to stop and a player admired by many – Michel Vorm and Moussa Sissoko also recently praised him.

This is what O’Hara had to say about Dembele who amazingly managed not to play with him at Spurs and Fulham. He left the club a year before the Belgian joined White Hart Lane, while the talkSPORT pundit played for Fulham three years after Dembele’s departure.

“Played against Mousa Dembele in midfield,” said O’Hara. “Built like a sofa and walked like a cheetah. His skills were at the highest level and therefore underestimated.”

One of Tottenham’s best

Statistically, Dembele won’t stand out like Dele Alli or Christian Eriksen.

He didn’t have an explosive season like Gareth Bale but he still deserves to be included as one of Tottenham’s best in the Premier League era.

As solid as an ox, brave as a lion and gliding as a cheetah. He was a great footballer and perhaps the greatest ‘street footballer you never forget’ of all time.
