Ruby Barker: Bridgerton star shares mental health update after being discharged from hospital

Bridgeton Star Ruby Barker has said she feels “so lucky to be alive” after being discharged from hospital with mental health issues.

The actress is best known for her role as Marina Thompson in the Netflix romantic drama series. She was a main character in the first season of the show and had a brief appearance in the recently released second season.

Last week, Barker posted a six-minute video to Instagram, telling fans that she had been hospitalized to focus on her mental recovery after “being really unwell for a very long time.”

On Monday (30 May), the 25-year-old shared a new video on social media, thanking her fans and explaining that she has now left the hospital.

“You made me so lucky to be alive,” Barker said, adding that she’s “doing great” and “can’t wait for the future.”

“If I were to give my younger self some advice, I’d just say to myself, ‘Listen, it’s not all doom and gloom even when you hit rock bottom,'” she said. “There are always funny things in life. Sometimes you just have to find the fun.”

Barker then thanked her Bridgeton co-stars and revealed advice Eloise Bridgerton actress Claudia Jessie once gave her.

“She told me to flip the coin. It may be matte on one side, but just flip the coin and you’ll find it’s glossy on the other side,” she said.

“It trains your mind to find the funny… to find the light, to find the positive. It’s really difficult to do, but if you can put it into practice, you’ve made it.”
