Ron DeSantis joins Elon Musk as a Time Person of Year finalist

That would certainly drive Donald Trump up the wall, if not over it.

A rising GOP star and presumptive 2024 presidential nominee, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has made Time magazine’s shortlist for Person of the Year, joining Twitter CEO Elon Musk, Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky connected.

DeSantis has risen to the forefront of American politics in recent years, marking his rise with a 20-point loss to Democratic gubernatorial challenger Charlie Crist last month.

DeSantis, who has catalyzed a Republican resurgence in the Sunshine State, is widely viewed as a potential GOP presidential nominee in 2024, pitting him against already-declared 76-year-old former President Trump.

Time’s 10 finalists for annual recognition were announced on NBC’s Today show.

The list also includes outgoing Congresswoman Liz Cheney, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and novelist MacKenzie Scott.

Time also selected Iranian protesters, gun safety advocates and the US Supreme Court as finalists.

The publication began the annual tradition in 1927 when it made pioneering pilot Charles Lindbergh the first man of the year.

The magazine previously explained that the title doesn’t necessarily involve moral or ethical considerations, instead “choosing the person or people who have most impacted the news and our lives, for better or for worse, and embodies what’s important about the year.” was”.

A total of 16 American Presidents have been named Person of the Year, with Franklin D. Roosevelt being the only three-time recipient.

Musk received the title last year, followed by President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who were named jointly.

Trump was named Person of the Year in 2016 after his surprise presidential victory. But he regularly lobbied for the reinstatement of the title and had even designed fake magazine covers to be hung in golf course clubhouses.
