Roman candle used to light a police car in the town of Johnston County

MICRO, NC (WNCN) – Someone attempted to set fire to a police car in a Johnston County town Saturday night, officials said.

The incident involved a marked police cruiser in the town of Micro, which is halfway between Kenly and Selma off Interstate 95.

Micro Police Chief T. Macon Jones said someone used a Roman candle during the arson attempt.

A police photo showed the device next to the passenger wheel, pointing up into the wheel well.

Police said a small blue car with 30-day tags was sighted at the scene. The man in the car and possibly a passenger, Jones said.

“Anyone with information please contact me,” Jones wrote on Facebook.
