JOSE MOURINHO could still be targeting long-term Granit Xhaka from Arsenal this month.
Reports at the time suggested that the Serie A giants had agreed personal terms with the player but were unable to strike a deal before the club’s bigwigs at Emirates.
But outlets in Italy now think Mourinho is back with the 29-year-old and hope to bring him back before the transfer window closes next week.
Any deal for the midfielder won’t necessarily go smoothly, though.
A likely candidate is Amadou Diawara, but the Guinea international has refused to move to Valencia.
The 24-year-old is said to earn around £1.8m a year and finding a buyer to match his salary is proving difficult.
Arsenal are believed to have made a bid of £16.6m for Xhaka, with Roma prepared to pay multiple times to match that.
Xhaka has had a forgettable season so far in North London.
The Swiss star has been sent off twice and out for three months because of a knee ligament injury.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is currently keeping an eye on Wolves’ Ruben Neves, with his arrival likely to pave the way for Xhaka’s exit.
