Robbie Savage’s son Charlie is a young Man Utd star who has been called up to the team by Ralf Rangnick

Talented young player called up to the Wales U18 team faced England on March 29, and had appreciated himself even though the Dragons lost 0-2.

Famous, his father, BT Sport expert Robbie Savage, was a member of the Class of ’92 team with the likes of Ryan Giggs, David Beckham and Paul Scholes.

Savage Sr, 46, also has 39 caps for Wales – playing for clubs including Leicester City, Birmingham City and Derby County during his career.

And Charlie even shares the old’s position – playing in central midfield, where he would love to part ways.

LOVE A TACKLE

Former Robbie player known for his tough style of play and energy on the pitch.

What he lacked in skill, he made up for with high-energy displays.

Similarly, Charlie is a box-to-box midfielder who loves tackles and doesn’t mind getting stuck.

However, he has more points in his game in terms of being a creative spark and being a good passer.

In 15 appearances for the Under-18s team this season, Charlie has 4 assists and 2 goals to his name.

His first goal for the club in a 4-1 win over Newcastle was celebrated on Twitter by Robbie.

“Proud of my boy, keep going, keep working hard, don’t stop listening to his coach, he’s starting to get his reward,” he captioned a video of Charlie’s strike.

He humorously added: “The one who finished is better than his father.”

KING KONG

In 2018, Savage was part of a team of freshmen United scholars that traveled to Hong Kong for a tournament.

The Reds competed in the Jockey Club Youth Football Academy Summit, and won.

Charlie impressed in the competition against local teams and started every game.

United beat HK Academy 6-1, beat HK All-Stars in the semi-finals and then beat Guandong U17s 3-0 in the final.

LEICESTER-SURVIVAL, FUTURE WELSH

Charlie was born in Leicester in 2003, a year after Robbie left the Foxes to play for Birmingham.

But, proud of his father’s roots, he is looking to follow in his footsteps and play for the Wales national team.

In September 2019, he made his debut for their U17 team – and played five times.

He impressed the Dragons, who qualified for the elite round before it was postponed due to Covid-19

Charlie was called up to the U18 team for the match against the Three Lions on March 29.

The Wales Under-18s haven’t played in more than 20 years since Neville Southall took charge of the team in 2000 but the age group has been restarted with changes to Uefa’s league structure.
