Rising Costs: West Houston Assistance Ministries is seeing 2 to 3 times more people than normal doing food distribution

At the West Houston Aid Ministries on Wednesday we were able to experience the growing demand up close. Hundreds of cars queued for hours to get much-needed supplies.
“We haven’t seen this level of intensity since the peak of the pandemic. I’d say it’s more than double what it normally is. It’s really extraordinary,” said Mark Brown of WHAM. “Based on my analysis, this will continue to be a major challenge for our community. WHAM will likely play a role for at least a year or maybe even longer… in terms of extremely increased demand.”
Brown said between 600 and 800 people attended each event. He estimated they were serving 2,000 people on Wednesday.
