Richard Atchison arrested for allegedly throwing a Christmas tree at his wife

A Florida man allegedly threw a Christmas tree at his wife during an argument sparked when she asked him to help prepare dinner, authorities said.

Richard Atchison, 52, “lost his temper” at the couple’s Fruitland Park home on Monday night after his wife called for help and placed a spoon in the sink and accidentally splashed water on it, according to an affidavit obtained by FOX 35 Orlando emerges.

Atchison packed his things and headed outside to his vehicle before returning home because “he’d been drinking” and told his wife to leave instead.

When the woman tried to leave, deputies said Atchison pushed her, picked up a Christmas tree that was in the corner of the room, threw it at her, and hit her. He then allegedly blocked the front door to prevent her from leaving.

Atchison was booked on household battery charges and taken to the Lake County Jail without incident.
